Longing

Longing

Oh, golden solitude of my homeland,
isle of my youth—green, still, and vast—
where the fairy tales of my childhood roam:
just once more, I long to see you again!

Just once, I wish to wander hand in hand
with my love through that distant land—
oh soul, whom a God created for me,
do you hear, back home, this anxious cry of longing?
Leon Vandersee († 1907), Helene von Tiedemann.

Sehnsucht

O meiner Heimat goldne Einsamkeit,
